Top Las Vegas Tips and Tricks for first timers and pros.
This list is not comprehensive, but it will definitely get you started on your first trip to Las Vegas or, if you’ve been before, refresh you on some things you may not have thought about.
1. 💳 Avoid High ATM Fees in Las Vegas
ATMs on the Strip can charge up to $10 per transaction. To avoid these outrageous fees, bring cash beforehand or use ATMs at off-Strip banks like Chase or Bank of America.
2. 🎰 Sign Up for Casino Players Cards
Yes! Cards from MGM Rewards, Caesars Rewards, and Wynn Red Card give you comps on gaming, dining, shopping, and more. You can even earn free nights or discounted shows.
3. ☀️ Stay Hydrated & Use Sunscreen
Las Vegas is extremely dry and hot, even at night. Bring a refillable water bottle and wear sunscreen daily—even if you’re not at the pool.
4. 🚎 Use the Deuce Bus or Monorail
Rideshares surge often, and walking can be exhausting. The Deuce bus runs 24/7, and the Las Vegas Monorail is fast, affordable, and connects major resorts. Though the monorail is a bit inconvenient if you are on the West side of the Vegas Strip, it can save you money that can go towards other expenses.
5. 📅 Don’t Overbook Your Day
The Strip is larger than it looks. Give yourself time to enjoy each casino, show, or attraction. Trying to do too much will burn you out fast. This applies to those pool days and pool dayclubs. Don’t expect to do anything that evening. Trust us, you won’t make it. lol
6. 🍽 Time Your Buffet Visit Smartly
Arrive during breakfast-lunch crossover (usually 10:30–11:30 AM) to sample breakfast and lunch for the same price. Buffets like Bacchanal and Wicked Spoon are top-tier. There are fewer and fewer buffets on the Vegas Strip. Sometimes going off-strip may give you better options and be much cheaper. If you want to eat at one of those buffets, we HIGHLY recommend you reserve and pay in advance, which will save you money.
7. 👟 Wear Comfortable Shoes
The resorts are HUGE. Walking from one casino to the next can take 20+ minutes. Skip the fashion heels—opt for sneakers or cushioned sandals. The Vegas Strip is 5 miles long, super flat and the hotels are massive. This combination makes it appear as if the hotels are close due to their size. Don’t be fooled and make sure you are ready to walk. A LOT.
8. 🏨 Beware of Resort Fees
Unfortunately, yes. In addition to the room rate, expect to pay $35- $50 per night. Always check the total price before booking.
9. 🎆 Enjoy Free Las Vegas Attractions
From the Bellagio fountains to the Fremont Street Experience downtown, Vegas offers lots of free things that don’t involve gambling. We highlight a lot in our video so check that out for more.
10. 🎟 Reserve Ahead for Shows & Dining
Absolutely—especially for weekend visits. Book your must-do restaurants, shows, pool parties, and excursions in advance to avoid disappointment.
